So the Trudeau regime, as it has to be referred to from this point on, has finally overplayed its hand. In invoking the Emergency Act on Monday – previous known as the War Measures Act – he has driven this battle of wills over vaccine mandates into territory where international condemnation, and ultimately resignation awaits. Earlier this week I asked how far Trudeau was willing to go over this? And now I have my answer.
Whilst the rest of the world is walking away, Trudeau is going back to stab the kid who embarrassed him in front of his peers. ‘Relax’ they tell him ‘… it’s just a kid’, but he has become fixated… this is now personal for Justin Bits, and rather than lose face in front of his globalist pals, the kid will have to die.
That is politically what’s going on here – Trudeau’s total lack of pragmatic leadership skills and entitlement, have set him on a path where his only option is to criminally overact. Now we must place our hope in a chorus of waking voices with enough clout to put a stop to this insanity, or it will be left to us to remove him.
Trudeau has made it perfectly clear that the main thrust of his emergency measured will be focused on targeting the financial interests of this political enemies, including ordering banks to seize accounts without due process, and freezing of any accounts from which a donation of $25 was made. He also targeted transportation corporate accounts and insurance coverage for anyone involved in further protests. These measures, whilst not yet sanctioned by Parliament, are already in operation.
I think we can all agree that it would be futile to continue to pour resources into an area where Trudeau now enjoys total dominance, and defeat is almost assured. I am not arguing that those embedded in Ottawa should pull out, but just that our efforts should simultaneously move into other theatres, and in particular, the soft underbelly of any regime – the economy.
As an organic decentralized movement, we enjoy certain advantages, the regime cannot. We get to choose where and when we fight, and the ability to change tactics or method after every engagement. Given this, there seems little point occupying a position the government has marked for annihilation.
Earlier today some within the Ottawa truckers started calling for a General Strike starting Monday 21st – Friday 25th February, requesting that participants call in sick with Covid 19. And to that end, it is worth noting that here in B.C. the provincial government has legislated that employers must provide 5 days Covid sick pay in addition to any existing arrangement.
Needless to say, the Trudeau regime would be helpless to stop a week long General Strike, and the effects on the economy would be devastating, especially if picked up by the workers currently being targeted – farmers and truck drivers.
Trudeau has unleashed economic war on the Freedom Convoy and its supporters, and front and centre of that will be the banks. There is one simple way to address their appetite for compliance to tyranny, and that is for every protester to withdraw all of their money from these banks on the same day. The banks do not keep a lot of cash, and this would cause a run on the banks, which in turn would require financial intervention from the Bank of Canada to rescue the situation.
Earlier in 2021 a group of day traders on Reddit who were using their government lockdown money to purchase stocks, demonstrated the vulnerability of Wall St. hedge funds when they cane to the organized defence of shorted stocks targeted for destruction by hedge fund managers. The mass purchase of Game Stop stocks resulted in at least one Hedge Fund requiring government financial assistance to cover losses, which amounted to over $1 billion.
But it was their next heavily shorted target – silver, that illustrated the vulnerability of a rigged casino financial system. Silver is the most shorted market on the planet, and keeping it that way is in the best interests of the banks who, not only prop up our terminally ill fiat economies, but who have now been weaponized by Trudeau to once again crush the little guy.
So the second part of this is quite simple: if everyone took some of that cash they withdrew from the banks and bought physical silver with it, this would serve as a double whammy for the banking system; a pincer movement if you like.
These two acts alone would be enough to seriously rattle the Canadian banking system and have repercussions for the global economy – guaranteed Trudeau is getting a phone call in 24hrs. If you then add in a General Strike, this regime would be brought to its knees in short order.
It is these sort of combined tactics we now need to employ. We cannot stand toe-to-toe and trade blows with the Trudeau regime. Ours must be a guerilla war, and we need to become comfortable operating with flexibility, cunning and surprise in every arena available to us.
Tyrannical government is illegitimate by definition, and its destruction a moral duty.
After a recent conversation with family in the U.K., I decided to write an account of what life has been like in Canada since medical apartheid was introduced here in September, as it’s often easy for those being subjected to such measures to start to view them as ‘normal’.
My family were shocked at the level of restrictions being imposed on unvaccinated Canadians, and the ease with which a segregated society was being implemented. Britain might be a petri dish of Islamic terror and knife crime, but there is an oppositional defiance woven into the national character that makes the sort of measures currently being rolled out in Canada difficult to achieve.
It cannot be said strongly enough, that none of the measures currently being imposed would last for long without the silent compliance of the majority of the population. Most people are dangerously trusting of government. They readily trade freedoms for security, and the more threatened they are made to feel, the more freedom they appear willing to surrender.
We live in Vancouver – one of those cities that is always making the top five places to live list, whilst suffering the same sort of issues that plague places like San Francisco – unaffordable housing; rampant homelessness; drug abuse and deaths. Or, as a friend puts it: Vancouver is like a supermodel that won’t stop crying; she is so blissfully self absorbed and ignorant, that even the current public health apartheid exists somewhere in the ether secondary to her Instagram profile.
Nothing I am going to describe has been passed as law – parliament has not voted on any of these measures, and none of them are enforceable without the ongoing State of Emergency, which has existed for almost two years.
At the end of June the provincial mask orders were removed, and in the absence of public health order keeping them in place, mask policies became an issue for individual businesses.
As an ‘essential worker’ for a local municipality, I was in every day of the pandemic ensuring that the buildings were functioning and services were maintained; unlike my managers, who worked mostly from home.
In early August after returning from a vacation, I wrote to my employer seeking clarification as to whether the mask mandate they had decided to continue with was ‘recommended’ or ‘mandatory’. They replied that it was ‘required’. I asked to see the legal basis for that and was pointed to the Prevention of Communicable Disease policy, which only stated that masks were ‘recommended.’
I was told by my workplace Covid Tzar that failure to wear a mask in common areas would leave me open to disciplinary action.
I decided to stop wearing the mask in common areas, and this period of liberation lasted just over a week until someone reported me to my manager. I refused to wear a mask on the basis that it was not mandated by a PHO and sent the following letter in defiance.
First thing Monday morning I continued to refuse to wear the mask and was hauled in front of my section manger for a verbal warning. By 3.30pm that afternoon it had escalated to a written warning in the presence of HR & union representation. The union were absolutely useless btw, but I will come back to comprehensive union failure to defend members later. I was handed a letter of expectation, and informed that I was expected to attend work the next day wearing a mask. I was then asked, ‘Are you intending to comply with this expectation?’ and whether I had any questions.
I only had one question: how much notice they required for retirement?
24 hrs later I handed in my retirement notice commencing Sept 1st 2021.
Vaccine Passports: ‘Wanna go to a bar? Just get the vax dude.’
Since the 13th September 2021 the Unvaccinated have been excluded from general society via proof of vaccination status which must be presented to enter restaurants, bars, clubs; community centers; leisure facilities and all gatherings over 50 people. This has also been extended to unvaccinated children over the age of twelve
It is this last detail I find both egregious and unforgivable; if the government wants to punish adults for decisions that they have made regarding attempts to coerce them into receiving an experimental medical treatment – and it is a punishment let’s be clear, as both BC’s Public Health Officer, Dr Bonnie Henry and Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau have admitted as much – then we can weather that, despite it’s clearly immoral and illegal implications, but to target children for such punishment is unforgivable.
Despite medical studies documenting adverse effects like Myocarditis in teenage boys, the government’s rationale is that children over the age of 12 can be safely vaccinated and if they are not, they too need to be isolated and forcefully persuaded.
How did Canadians become O.K. with this? How can a child, or a parent, agree to a ‘vaccine’ knowing the potential significant side effects, and that vaccine makers are immune from liability?
It’s truly worrying where this is heading, and what is expected of us. We have two children (boys) aged 15 and 11. Neither of which are vaccinated, and given everything we have read, and they will remain that way.
I used to joke that your average Canadian is only ever two CBC Op-Ed’s away from throwing other people’s kids into ovens in the name of decency. Now I am starting to fear that observation.
Isolation & Discrimination
You hear a lot about both of these topics if you spend anytime consuming CBC news, but NEVER in relation to what the Unvaccinated are currently being subjecting to. This perversely selective social justice serves only to render CBC’s professional credibility contemptible; on par with North Korean state media; selective virtue being what it is – no virtue at all.
Over recent weeks my a small circle of unvaccinated friends are becoming closer – checking in with other; keeping in touch; organizing things together. At the same time, it is palpable that the vaccinated world is silently turning its back on us. And although subtle, the latter is happened so comprehensively and in such a short period of time, it is disconcerting.
Isolation is incredibly damaging on mental health, and some members of my family are struggling at times with the ongoing lockdowns and war on the Unvaccinated. To say that I am angry at what the federal & provincial governments have, and are doing to my family, is an understatement. They have declared war on us and are creating a divided society; one that is going to be much less cohesive and more dysfunctional. You have to conclude that they know this, and at this stage you have to wonder what instructions they have been given, together with their level of understanding in regards to the big picture.
In mid October my wife was due to start a contract working on a Christmas show. She has worked seasonally for this company for eight years. The day before her contract was due to start she was informed that she needed to be vaccinated, and fully vaccinated by the 24th October.
She told them it was not her intention to be vaccinated, and her contract was cancelled the next day. What really bothered her, despite the loss of income, was the impersonal manner in which this was conducted. These were friends of hers; there was no attempt made to clarify why she wasn’t going to be vaccinated before her contract was cancelled. Often such action by the employer can be attributed to the position many employers have been put in by the Provincial government, but this was an independent policy created by the company chasing an ideological position, and once again her union was utterly useless to the point of silent complicity. You have to ask what is the point of paying union dues given their comprehensive failure to protect workers under threat of coercive vaccine policies?
My early retirement at the beginning of September was a choice; after 18 months as an essential worker attending my place of work every day of the ‘pandemic’, I wanted to make a stand against my employer’s draconian interpretation of PHO advice.
A few weeks later my act of defiance became something of a moot point, when on 6th October – the same day that Trudeau announced a vaccine mandate for federal workers – my now ex-employer announced that they too were requiring that all workers be fully vaccinated by 22nd November. As an unvaccinated worker, Friday 19th November would be my last day of employment, after which, they would send me home on unpaid leave indefinitely. They cannot fire workers who refuse to be vaccinated, because they haven’t done anything wrong, instead they are sending them home without pay to avoid legal liability for wrongful dismissal. It is both cowardly and deceitful, and we hope that one day those responsible will be brought to justice via the thousands of Notices of Liability that are currently being served across Canada by affected employees and activists working with Action4Canada.
So we are now a family with both parents victims of workplace Covid policies. We are getting work where we can find it and have embarked upon the only avenue remaining open to us – self-employment.
I am confident that we’ll be O.K. scratching out an existence on the fringes of society. However, we also fully appreciate that those behind these restrictions are not done with their discrimination and punitive policies. We fear the unknown of what comes next, and especially fear for our children knowing that they are the next target for these psychopaths.
Everything is on the table for us, and one option is to leave the country before things get any worse, but that door is also closing fast. On the same day Trudeau announced his federal worker vaccine mandates, he also announced that starting on 30th October, unvaccinated Canadians can no longer travel on trains; planes or cruise ships. That means that if you are a foreign national residing in Canada after that date, you will need to be vaccinated to leave, or you will be trapped in country.
This is now full blown pharma-fascism. Our leaders have become deranged tyrants and the majority of Canadians are just going along with it, hoping that the concessions being made will eventually earn them their old life back. I consider this position to be grossly naïve and believe that we are subject to a coup by the elites, or Great Reset, with a public health crisis acting as the rationale to justify it.
Like many other people we know, we are hurriedly renewing our British passports just in case the situation gets ugly and we are suddenly looking at internment camps or forced vaccination. And whilst we realize that this is a global operation, and Britain is by no means immune from the current momentum, the situation there is much less controllable for the authorities.
We seriously worry about where things are heading in this country, and hope that Canada is not about to enter territory hitherto synonymous with worst collectivist experiments of the 20th Century. The people in charge are capable of such horror, and the population clearly naïve and ignorant enough of historical precedent to go along with it… all in the name of safety and decency.
As If the devastating fires that destroyed thousands of homes in Fort McMurray wasn’t enough for the residents of Northern Alberta, suffering locals have to watch themselves be the butt of the Joke in VICE Media’s latest TV show, FUBAR: Age of Computer.
Based on the cult film FUBAR made in 2002, Age of Computer is a rehash of the same characters doing the same thing; getting wasted and being stupid, but the joke comes at the tax payers expense.
Funded in part by Canadian Arts and Film grants, FUBAR not only makes light out of the tragedy in Fort Mac by implying it was the characters themselves that started the fires but they also go about exploiting the system that supported the survivors.
Fans of the show, and there are many, love the characters (I was once one of them) but unlike the personalities they portray, the actors (Dave Lawrence and Paul Spence) are not at all like the real people they make fun of. They are left wing hipsters who are too cool for regular people.
The original film was a Canadian hit because the performances were so realistic. Yet now, as is true with most Vice Media productions, the subject IS the joke. While Bob and Doug McKenzie (of SCTV fame) were affable, fun, good natured hosers, the actors in FUBAR are not. Instead of having fun with the Canadian banger stereotype, they are making fun of the Canadian head banger. The very people who watch the show. To Spence and Lawrence they are losers to be exploited for financial gain.
Apart from Michael Dowse (the director and co-creator of FUBAR) who has made a name for himself since his directorial debut making films world wide, Lawrence and Spence have had a lacklustre career which is why they had to return to the only thing they were good at; making fun of others.
It should be noted that the trio (who now reside in Quebec) went out of their way to include and be respectful towards French culture by creating an unnecessary character who is French Canadian. Presumably because the TV show was shot in Montreal and not Calgary where the show takes place. In Canada it’s ok to make fun of Alberta (English Canadians) but not Quebec (French Canadians) because that would be racist.
In light of VICE Media’s current sexual harassment issues (that appear to be long running and systemic) it is not hard to understand their Machiavellian business model. Appeal to the consumer (and young attractive staff) by presenting a false image. That of progressive, sensitive, socially conscious, equality minded, justice warrior journalism. When in fact, nothing could be further from the truth.
Under VICE’s bogus appearance lies a pair of cut throat business men in Shane Smith and Suroosh Alvi who stabbed their co-founder Gavin McGinnis in the proverbial back like Brutus killed Caeser in the Roman senate 2000 years ago. When the time came, the two saw that the genius behind VICE magazine’s success had to go and forced him out by hostile take over. Today, VICE Media is reported to be worth 5.5 billion.
It is an empire built on the humiliation of the very people who read, watch and consume their products. Under the premise of Journalism or ‘telling peoples stories’, VICE media engages in the mondo ‘Elephant Man’ type exploitation of it’s subjects.
The ‘Look at this person, his life is hard, poor guy. Aren’t you glad you’re not him?’ kind of story telling.
Just like VICE Media, (and the Canadian arts funding bodies that helped produce it) FUBAR: Age of Computer is a tone deaf, pile of insulting garbage.
In the wake of the Edmonton Islamic terror attack, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued a statement saying that we all need to embrace diversity. He failed to use the words radical Islam, preferring to describe it as a generic terror attack driven by the boogie monster known as hate.
“We cannot – and will not – let violent extremism take root in our communities. We know that Canada’s strength comes from our diversity, and we will not be cowed by those who seek to divide us or promote fear.” Full Statement
Well, the first thing to obviously point out in that statement is that, it is his government who has embarked upon a program of mass Islamic immigration; no one else is more responsible for Islamic extremism taking root within Canadian society. It seems ludicrous to search for a culprit anywhere else – like O.J Simpson saying that he’s looking for the real murderer.
Trudeau’s government has flooded cities like Edmonton & Calgary with such people, and in doing so has single-handedly sown the seeds that are now bearing their murderous fruit.
Contrast that with his statement after the Quebec mosque attack:
“We condemn this terrorist attack on Muslims in a centre of worship and refuge… Muslim-Canadians are an important part of our national fabric, and these senseless acts have no place in our communities, cities and country.” Full Statement
After the Quebec attack, he went to great lengths to highlight that this was an attack on Muslims, but after Edmonton, completely fails to mention the involvement of Islam despite the attack being carried out by a Muslim with an ISIS flag in the van.
However, the day after the Edmonton Islamic terror attack he took to social media to share a post which condemned ‘White Supremacy’. No one is really expected to know how Trudeau’s mind works at this stage, but don’t forget this is the same national leader who said that ISIS could only be defeated with love.
Trudeau is the product of his generation & a privileged upbringing; he does not live in reality, but a world of ideology; he is stupid rather than evil (the only two options available to him), and this sort of inconsistency betrays his bias.
In following the European model of ‘cultural enrichment’ whilst attempting to silence those who speak out against it, Trudeau is sowing the seeds of Islamic Jihad in Canada for future generations.
It’s not like we don’t know how this plays out; the experiment has already been run in Europe, where it can be safely declared a resounding failure. Who in their right mind would look at somewhere like France and say, ‘let’s have some of that over here.’
The price of Trudeau’s ideological indulgence will be paid for by future generations of Canadians; our children; grandchildren & great grandchildren, and it will be paid in blood. That is why this matters. Trudeau might seem to many like the happy decent sower of ‘diversity & strength’, but in reality he is a traitor to Canada’s future generations.
Trudeau follows the globalist model already established in Europe; one which the Democrats in the U.S. have been busy implementing during the 8 years of Obama.
This model requires that political parties that traditionally represented the interests of the working poor, abandon them in favour of ‘refugees’. To that end it requires the silencing of dissent, which provides a logical explanation for why we are now being subjected to ‘hate speech’ legislation: to silence the growing number who instinctively know that this is not in their interest.
Trudeau has one sound bite that sums up his mindset more than any other: “Our diversity is our strength” It’s a slogan he uses repeatedly, and upon scrutiny one which makes no sense unless we are talking about financial investments. Diversity is not strength, because it suggests the absence of cohesion & unity – something required for a successful societal model.
It sounds more like something he might have heard whilst watching Star Trek Voyager, and when you consider that, everything else that comes out of his mouth starts to make more sense.
In the wake of the Charlottesville violence and the attack involving a car being driven into a crowd of Antifa & BLM protesters, there have been calls for the groups involved in Saturday’s Unite The Right demonstration against the removal of the statue of General Lee in Charlottesville to be declared domestic terrorists.
The Case for Domestic Terrorism
As when Islamists use vehicles as weapons, any act of mass violence that is ideologically driven could be classed as domestic terrorism. However, in order to have the groups associated with the Unite The Right march, declared domestic terrorists, by that standard, those calling for such a move would have to accept Black Lives Matter & Antifa also being declared domestic terrorist organizations. Or risk exposing transparent bias and deteriorating the situation further into open civil war.

Both Black Lives Matter & Antifa have a well established history of using violence and intimidation to further their cause. Both groups have a track record of calling for dead cops; dead fascists etc. and the forcible silencing of voices they do not agree with. This side of Islamic terror, there are no better examples of domestic terror organizations in modern America than BLM & Antifa.
Antifa have been plying their trade as violent leftist street thugs all but unchallenged for the past year. All anyone had to do to be the focus of this violence was to turn up to speak at a university. People attending such events have been beaten unconscious; pepper sprayed; spat on and ultimately prevented from hearing the speaker, in contravention of their Constitutional right, by an organized group who exclusively use violence & intimidation to achieve their ideological goals.

James Hodgkinson, the shooter of Republican House Majoiry Whip, Steve Scalise and three others, first identified and then shot the Republicans at a baseball game in Virginia earlier this year for no other reason their political affiliation to the Republican party. It was an ideologically driven act of mass violence (terrorism).
Hodgkinson was a supporter of Bernie Saunders. And whilst it would be unconvincing to lay the blame for that act of domestic terrorism on Sanders, it is not unreasonable to claim that the current culture of political violence was fermented & initiated by the Democratic Party – starting with the orchestration of violence at Trump rallies, which were planned & organized by Democratic Party operatives and paid for by George Soros.

Democratic leaders like Nancy Pelosi & Maxine Waters have not only consistently failed to denounce leftist violence against Trump and his supporters; they have infact poured fuel on such violence with their violent rhetoric. Likewise, when CNN describes a Black Lives Matter as ‘activists’, they legitimize the culture of violence the left currently enjoys.
The Democratic Party; George Soros & the liberal media are currently organizing; financing & legitimizing domestic terrorism in America.
If they are going to cast the domestic terrorism net and label right wing groups, ‘terrorist organizations’, the failure to include left wing groups with a much more convincing track record for the label, would do nothing but prepare the ground for a broader and expanding civil conflict.
When I was about 11, there was a novel published entitled, The Churchill Commando. It was the late 1970’s, IRA terrorism was at its height and football violence had become engrained within the fabric of society.
When it was released, the Churchill Commando, which centred around the activities of a right wing death squad,was pawed with by the tabloid press as a fantasy panacea to the ills of the day.
As someone who lived in the U.K. through the full span of The Troubles as they became affectionately known, our current battle with Islamic terror is so much more serious and concerning. Because unlike the Irish nationalists, there is no political solution we can offer these people; nothing will satisfy them short of complete subjugation under an Islamic Caliphate. But also more worringly, Western societies no longer possess the resolve or means by which to defend themselves, never mind defeat such an enemy. Modern politicians and societies have been left ideological demoralized and all but defenceless due to decades of exposure to cultural Marxism.
In the 1970’s the British government fought a brutal and messy war against Republican terrorists both in Ireland and on the mainland. It was a protracted clandestine war of terror which included political assassinations; pub bombing; snipers and IED’s.
The British army operated an offensive front in N. Ireland via special forces units and through Unionist organizations such as the Ulster Voulenteer Force (UVF) & Ulster Defence Association (UDA). These units would be fed intelligence on Republican operatives & would be supplemented with army personnel, which would then target and assassinate active IRA members. For a number of years the British government also operate an internment policy, whereby nationalist operatives and activists could be detained on the basis of intelligence alone.
This is the sort of war we will need to fight against domestic Islamic extremism in order to defeat it and erradicate it from our societies. However, things have changed since the 1970’s; our societies are a perfect reflection of the hang-wringing cucked man-bitches they seem determined to produce, and so you have to wonder whether we are capable of winning such a fight?
An Enemy Within
It turns out that the Manchester Arena suicide bomber attended a radical local moque where his brother was a preacher; his dad was a fundraiser and Al Qaeda affiliate, and the family had just returned from a holiday to the jihadi playground formerly known as Libya. This family, who were first offered a home in Britain as they fled Gaddafi’s regime, not only betrayed every law of hospitality and gratitude, but they all should have been well on the radar of the security services.
Last night’s Islamic terror attack in South London, employed the more crude methods already hallmarked by ISIS operatives – vehicles and knives, but no doubt they will have been nurtured in communities that shared their ideology and received support from others not yet identified.
A recent ICM poll revealled that a staggering 66% of British Muslims would not inform the authorities of a terror plot. Which raises another issue: these bombers do not exist in isolation; statistics show that the communities they come from support them in alarming numbers on a series of issues associated with Islamic radicalization.
These operatives, like any other military set up, are merely the business end supported by other extremists who share their ideology of intolerance and subjugation of host societies through violence.
Islam is rotten with violence, from the teachings and example set by the Prophet during his life, to the action of the South London attackers.
So we should not be surprised then these things happen. We have invited in a killer to dine with our family, whilst our politicians lie about the nature and intention of our guest.
Crossing The Rubicon
At this stage, a political will is required to defend & save our societies.
It’s either targeted hits, internment & deportation, as we saw in Northern Ireland in the 1970’s, or it’s Bosnia 2.0 for our children’s generation.
There is something galling about the prospect of sending your children to war to save the society of people who continue to support Islamic immigration despite all the evidence that it will eventually kill them.

Over recent months, Zerohedge have been running an increasing number of article dedicated to the overheated Canadian real estate market and the sureal conditions such temperatures have created.
Well, last week the alarm bells started ringing as it was announced that Home Capital Group, Canada’s largest independant mortgage provider, was in trouble and required a bail out of $2 billion. This news resulted in a one day drop in the share value of a staggering 60%, and 71% overall.
Home Capital Group cratered by over 60%, its biggest drop on record, after the company disclosed that it struck an emergency liquidity arrangement for a C$2 billion ($1.5 billion) credit line to counter evaporating deposits at terms that will leave the alternative mortgage lender unable to meet financial targets, and worse, may leave it insolvent in very short notice.
And they weren’t alone…
So where did this $2 billion bailout come from? This is where it gets interesting.
One day later, it emerged that the lender behind HCG’s (pre-petition) rescue loan was none other than the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP). As Bloomberg reported, the Toronto-based pension plan – which represented more than 321,000 healthcare workers in Ontario – gave the struggling Canadian mortgage lender the loan to shore up liquidity as it faces a run on deposits amid a probe by the provincial securities regulator. Home Capital had also retained RBC Capital Markets and BMO Capital Markets to advise on “strategic options” after it secured the loan.
Why did HOOPP put itself, or rather its constituents in the precarious position of funding what is a very rapidly melting ice cube? The answer to that emerged when we learned that HOOPP President and CEO Jim Keohane also sits on Home Capital’s board and is also a shareholder.
But it got worse for HCG:
On Thursday we observed that as concerns about HCG’s viability mounted, depositors were quietly pulling their funding from from savings accounts at subsidiary Home Trust. By Wednesday, when Home Capital revealed it was seeking a $2-billion loan to backstop its sinking savings deposits, shareholders ran for the exits, driving down the company’s share price by 65 per cent on Wednesday alone, and heightening the sense of panic.
On Friday, the company revealed that high-interest savings account balances fell another 36% to $521-million by Friday morning, down by a whopping $293 million from $814-million Thursday and more than $2-billion a month ago.
Considering the lack of reporting on any of this in the MSM, you’d be forgiven for thinking that this was all taking place in an alternate dimension.
But don’t expect CBC or CTV to share this news with you any time soon; they will keep this boat afloat and the illusion of stability going as long as they can.
But there is another concerning aspect to this story: Canadian household debt
A whopping 31% of respondents said they already don’t make enough to meet all their financial obligations.
It would appear that in order to afford their increasingly expensive standard of living, Canadians have been forced to take on an unprecedented level of debt, with little understanding of how it really works.
Roughly 60 per cent of respondants said they don’t have a firm grasp of how interest rates affect debt repayments.

A decision by the BoC to start lifting its key policy rate from historic lows would raise the cost of carrying debt across the country. A one percentage point rise in the BoC’s key interest rate would likely push up variable mortgage rates by a similar amount. A variable mortgage rate that’s currently set at 3 per cent, for example, would go up to 4 per cent, which represents a 33 per cent increase in interest payments for the mortgage holder. That’s an extra $83 a month for every $100,000 in outstanding mortgage debt.
It would appear that many Canadaians are so highly leveraged, that even a modest hike in interest rates would shake many of those hands from the tree. And this combination of household debt and an overheated housing market leaves the Canadian economy on the verge of a housing and debt crisis, the likes of which we last saw south of the border in 2008.
