That way the unperson couldn’t set a bad example. All memory of the impertinence would be forgotten, Comrades! Orwell was satirising Stalin’s Russia, where such practices were all too common.

When a Politburo member called Nikolai Yezhov, People’s Commissar for Water Transport, fell out of favour with Joseph Stalin in 1940, he was not just killed. He was not the only one.

Rand Paul: Obama “Unqualified” For Office

After Obama’s press secretary claimed that Donald Trump has lost all legitimacy and has been “disqualified” from running for office, Senator Rand Paul who is also running for the GOP nomination, blasted back at the arrogance of the Obama White House, suggesting that President Obama should address his own “disqualifying” characteristics.

As the holidays approach and Canadians dig through their pockets to support charitable causes, The Huffington Post Canada has learned several Quebec MPs — mostly New Democrats — have been using their office budgets to support third-party organizations.

The rules officially state that MPs cannot use any of their budgets for third-party fundraising, events, groups or causes.

Montreal-area Liberal MP Emmanuel Dubourg told HuffPost he doesn’t know how the NDP MPs could donate to charities.

When IMF head Christine Lagarde made the last IMF loan to Ukraine in the spring, she expressed the hope that there would be peace. But President Porochenko immediately announced that he would use the proceeds to step up his nation’s civil war with the Russian-speaking population in the East – the Donbass.

Leonardo DiCaprio has spoken movingly about how he witnessed at first hand the horrors of climate change during the making of his Oscar-tipped movie The Revenant.

These unprecedented weather conditions in which sudden warm gusts of winds blew away the snow: they’ve been happening year in year out in southern Alberta since the dawn of time. There’s nothing weird or abnormal about them at all. They’re seasonal hot winds called the Chinook.

It would be hilarious, if the star of The Revenant wasn’t also the head of a multimillion-dollar environmental lobby group, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, and a producer of documentaries on climate change.
